Operation Breakthrough approaches its fifth decade
with a new CEO and its founders front and center

The sisters, whose title is now "co-founder," have "tremendous energy left and a database of fabulous information in their heads that needs to be documented and shared," Chris says. "We needed to create time and space for them to do that."

Sister Corita is taking the lead on compiling the Center's history, in preparation for Operation Breakthrough's 40th anniversary next year. Sister Berta is concentrating on fundraising, advocacy on children's issues and educating the public about the challenges our families face.

Warehouse move - The community came to our rescue in August when we learned we had 30 days to vacate the warehouse where we hold furniture giveaways for families in need. Media coverage prompted off ers of help from warehouse owners and volunteers, who packed truckload after truckload of children's items, furniture and appliances and unloaded it all at our new space in south K.C. Thanks, Everyone!

Woman of the Year - The Greater Missouri Leadership Foundation honored Sister Berta in June as its "Woman of the Year." "Sister Berta is a bit of a bulldog," says Greater Missouri board president Carol Wilke. "She knows what needs to be done and will stop at nothing to ensure it happens." The Foundation honors Missouri women leaders.
