"Super Heroes" Save the Day at Operation Breakthrough

We could not have chosen a more appropriate theme for our 12th-annual fundraiser, "Super Heroes." A capacity crowd of nearly 1,000 heroic supporters of Operation Breakthrough attended our dinner and auction April 30 at the Muehlebach, which raised more than $685,000 for the children's needs.

Major sponsors included John and Marny Sherman, Inergy, DST Systems, Ernst & Young, James B. Nutter & Company, JP Morgan, Tom and Jean McDonnell, Waddell & Reed Financial Inc., Mike and Millie Brown, Ernst & Young, and Mail Print Inc., which donated all the invitations and programs.

We thank the many businesses and individuals who donated gifts for our silent and live auctions, and Shelli Veatch and Gigi Perry and their committees for gathering and selling the beautiful lineup of items. We also thank Ian Byrne and Judge Chris Sill-Rogers and Charlie Rogers for giving the wine cabinet and wine for our raffle.

The fundraiser proceeds will help provide hot meals, hands-on learning, caring teachers and fun field trips, not to mention health and dental care and therapy, for the more than 600 children the Center serves daily.

The evening proved that you don't need a cape or special powers to save the day at Operation Breakthrough. Our sponsors, our donors, our volunteers - you're all heroes in our eyes!
