Jumping Dolphins, Nesting Birds, Shining Sun – Murals Make Center Walls Come to Life

Toddlers on their way to our clinic run their fingers over the bumpy starfish on the wall and look up, up, up at the dolphins leaping overhead. First graders see hummingbirds drinking nectar as they scamper out to the playground. Warm sunshine and hopping rabbits greet visitors to the Blue Neighborhood.

Artist Susi Lulaki has transformed blank Center walls into three works of art this year. Now, children walk in from the gray city streets to find themselves face to face with sea turtles and whales, paddling and splashing, on both walls leading to our Children's Mercy Clinic. Downstairs, they can almost smell the flowers in the nature scene on a wall in the Orange Neighborhood, practically warm their hands by the giant sun in the Blue Neighborhood.

The murals were made possible by a grant from the David Woods Kemper Foundation.
