“The City You Never See”
Have you ever wondered what it’s like for a child to live in poverty?
Every day in the life of Missouri's children……..
• 238 calls are made to the Child Abuse and Neglect Hotline
• 25 teens drop out of school
• 24 teens give birth
• 212,369 children live in poverty
• 1 child or teen dies violently
The first step to righting these wrongs is awareness. Sr. Berta would be honored if you would join her on a bus tour of “The City You Never See.” Let her be your guide to sites – just minutes from the Country Club Plaza and The Power & Light District – where children stand in line for food, where working parents desperate for shelter break into abandoned buildings, where Missouri babies born into poverty struggle to survive.
We board the bus at 5:30 p.m. at Operation Breakthrough, 3039 Troost, Kansas City, MO 64109. As we tour, we will meet Operation Breakthrough parents who will tell us about their daily lives as residents of “The City You Never See.” We will return to Operation Breakthrough at approximately 6:45 p.m., where a short debriefing with refreshments will follow.
